There’s
not
much
I
can
say
about
Expo
without
tears.
He
was
my
best
friend,
my
confident,
the
one
I
went
to
when
times
were
very
tough.
We
were
defrauded
by
Realtors
and
lost
our
ranch.
We
had
to
choose
between
sending
our
horses
to
auction
(where
killers
were
just
waiting
for
such
fire
sales),
or
walking
away
from
our
life’s
savings
tied
up
in
the
property
---
no
contest.
Through
it
all,
Explodent
was
my
inspiration.
He
was
in
constant
pain
with
his
managed
chronic
laminitis
yet
never
complained
-
- found joy in his mares and offspring in pasture with him -- and love with our family.
I
arrived
home
early
from
work
one
day
only
to
find
my
young
daughter
and
Expo
asleep
in
his
pasture
with
Jessie’s
head
resting
on
his
neck.
I
approached
quietly
with
trepidation
--
I
didn’t
know
what
he
would
do
if
one
of
his
mares
came
up
to
them.
I
quietly
asked
Jessie
to
come
out.
She
and
Expo
sat
up
and
she
could
not
see
any
urgency.
Just
then
one
of
Expo’s
mares
came
up
and
he
yelled
at
her
--
as
if
to
say,
“I
breed
you
yet
this
is
my
best
friend
here.
Go
away!”
Totally
amazing,
yet
he
was
an amazing friend. I find comfort in having his wonderful son, Solstar, who has the same gentle and kind disposition.

A beautiful soul,
A wonderful friend,
You never asked for much,
Just love and respect
(And a mare in your field),
You were my support,
My crutch.
You helped me face
Times dismal and dark
And never complained
Of your pain.
You showed me how
To accept one's fate
With nary remorse
nor blame.
I miss you old friend
And from time to time
I remember the tears
that we shed
And imagine your nicker,
Come 'cross the field
When I'm laying awake
In my bed.
